How about a Basil Green Motors of South Africa, Perana Capri V8 powered by a 302ci V8 Ford Windsor engine.
Ford began selling the Capri in the Australian market in May 1969 [7] and in April 1970 it was released in the North American and South African markets. These versions all used the underpowered Kent 1.6 engine although a Pinto straight-four 2.0 L replaced it in some markets in 1971. An exception, though, was the Perana manufactured by Basil Green Motors near Johannesburg, which was powered by a 302ci V-8 Ford Windsor engine. [8] All North American versions featured the “power dome” hood and four round 5 3 4 ” US-spec headlights. They carried no “Ford” badging, as the Capri was sold by only Mercury dealers and promoted to US drivers as “the sexy European”.

Keep your Mazda away from me. Can you believe that was supposed to be an MX5 competitor?

I’ve always liked the Mako V8 that used BOSS 302s just like the ones used in boss mustangs in the states.

I didn't even know about the Perana till a couple of days or so ago. Was on Fifth Gear current series where Tiff Needel goes to South Africa and tries a few of Africa's home grown vehicles.

I never thought a Capri would look good as a rag top, but the MK I looks pretty good. Don’t think the II or III would look right though.
